With a history of fine paper manufacturing that stretches back nearly two centuries, James Cropper is a name that stands proud in the socio-economic and creative landscape of South Lakeland.
A genuine market leader in luxury papers, their output can be found across a global stage with rich, vibrant colours and the most subtle hues in paper used in packaging for perfumes and cosmetics, designer brand clothing tags, fine single malt boxes and beautiful stationery.
Steeped in traditional values and a commitment to both customer and community, James Cropper also has garnered a high reputation for innovation: manufacturing processes, personal development, sourcing materials and new products.
Perhaps not best-known is that James Cropper Paper also produce a range of high quality substrates for digital inkjet printing, specifically for reproduction of photography.
Primarily distributed across North America, the decision was made to re-launch the range to the UK market under the name ‘Wall Ready Media’ reflecting the key USP that the materials required no further application (such as lamination) after printing, therefore saving production time and cost.
Richard Burnett, Market Development Manager at James Cropper Paper: “As you can imagine, the digital inkjet market is highly competitive. The success of the product in the USA has been great and something which we were keen to communicate to our customers in the UK. The way to approach this was to produce a suite of presentation materials that would best demonstrate the capabilities of the materials.”
The solution delivered by the creative agency was a product pack: a stylish and visually engaging boxed presenter which communicated how quick and easy it was to print onto the stock.
Jon Wallbank, Absolute Digital Print: “As the ultimate audience for this would include commercial photographers and specialist printers, the quality of collaterals was paramount in terms of the resolution, vibrancy and accuracy of colour reproduction.”
“The agency and client selected images specifically to best demonstrate accuracy in reproduction, vibrancy and depth of colour plus overall impact. All very striking, all rich and intense, yet all which would show off the beautiful Wall Ready Media materials.”
James Cropper Wall Ready Media is available in a range of weights and finishes including Semi Gloss Board, Premium Glossy Board, Two-Sided Matt Board and Semi Gloss Faux Canvas.
The stock is compatible with pigment and dye ink systems with the boards presenting excellent flatness and surface strength properties. The cover papers used have a nano-porous inkjet receptive coating, an attribute which helps achieve almost instantaneous drying.
Absolute worked with a project partner to source a paper-over-board box, creating a template design and managing production to a tight schedule in order the complete packs to be used at a forthcoming exhibition and industry press launch.
We are delighted with the work produced by Absolute and the creative agency.
A relatively small length of production (just 250 units in total), each one was completed with fine attention to detail so that the end recipient would open a package of pristine photographic prints, collated between a protective interleaving paper, and also with accompanying marketing material.
“We are delighted with the work produced by Absolute and the creative agency.” concludes Richard Burnett. “The presentation pack was a new approach for us and quite a step forward, unlike anything we have produced previously. The combined quality of the creative execution and print production really helped convey the attributes of the materials, something which also struck a chord with our customers.”
This was a complete solution project for Absolute to work on combining all areas of operations: pre-press, repro, wide format inkjet, digital and litho. There was also the requirement for sourcing the bespoke boxes, coordinating the production and liaising with client and agency. Being able to hand over the completed work ahead of schedule and to a very happy client is always a sign of a successful project.
